Munich Airport expects significant increases in flights, travel destinations and passengers during the Bavarian Whitsun holidays.

According to the airlines' registrations so far, around 21 flights to and from 6 destinations are planned for the period from May 2021 to June 4.700, 130. This means that around 280 take-offs and landings take place on average during the holiday season - around 80 flights more than in the first two weeks of May. For comparison: During the 2019 Whitsun holidays, with a total of 19.300 flight movements, four times as many flights were registered.

As before, all arrivals and departures are managed via Terminal 2 at Munich Airport. Due to the increasing volume of traffic, however, check-in for around a dozen airlines will take place in area Z and in departure area C of Terminal 19 from May 1. Most international flights lead to Spain with 368 departures during the Whitsun holidays - especially to destinations in the Balearic and Canary Islands.

“We are currently seeing that people want to travel again after all these months of lockdown. The sooner it is possible to replace existing restrictions and quarantine regulations with common international standards for safe travel, the more likely a significant revival of air traffic can be expected, ”says Jost Lammers, CEO of Flughafen München GmbH.

Therefore, internationally recognized certificates for vaccinated and convalescent people as well as a standardized test regime for all other travelers are needed as soon as possible, Lammers demands.
