The corona crisis does not stop in Munich either. At the Bavarian airport there is a yawning emptiness, hardly a trace of air travelers. No wonder the airport wants to cut costs: 1500 employees are to leave MUC on a voluntary basis.

At least 620 people who are supposed to leave are employees of the handler Aeroground with a short period of employment. They should accept a “sprinter bonus” or go to a transfer company in order to seek a job change. Among other things, the airport would advertise retraining to become a subway driver or post office driver, like tz.de reported. Older employees (“age groups close to retirement”) should, however, retire voluntarily. Further corona programs are to be expected.

Ralf Krüger, Verdi works council at FMG, is rather skeptical. “The question now is: how many are willing to accept it.” Older workers who go now must take into account that they will accumulate fewer years of pension contributions. Works councilor Orhan Kurtulan also says: “Everyone has to decide for themselves.” Short-time work until the end of 2021 has just been agreed at the airport - this in any case rules out dismissals.
