Munich: environmentalists fail with lawsuit against third runway

Advertising

Environmentalists have been dismissed with a constitutional complaint regarding the third MUC runway. The Supreme Court dismissed the lawsuit on the grounds, among other things, that the plaintiff had not submitted all the documents.

However, the verdict is only symbolic, as the third runway for Munich was put on hold last year. Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) announced in September of the previous year that no construction would take place before 2028. The corona pandemic has fundamentally changed demand, so that the need does not currently appear to be given.

It is completely open whether this will change after 2028. Söder is of the opinion that one then has to deal with this project from scratch. So far, all constitutional complaints that the Supreme Court has dealt with have been unsuccessful. The present proceedings dragged on since 2015.
