Since Monday, fully vaccinated EU citizens in connection with a negative PCR test have been able to enter the United States of America again without any particular reason. Lufthansa operated another flight from Munich to Miami under flight number LH 460.

This route was last operated in March 2020. The demand for flights to the USA is said to have increased by 30 percent from Munich alone at Lufthansa. Bookings for Chicago and Newark are already above the level of 2019, other destinations are Los Angeles, Boston and New York. Passengers from Munich can now again choose from a wide range of flights to the USA: As of mid-December, the airlines will be serving eleven US destinations with almost 90 weekly connections, ten of which Lufthansa has on offer. In terms of the number of destinations, the airline is back at the pre-crisis level. With the addition of the destinations in Canada, the airlines at Munich Airport are offering just as many destinations this winter with a total of 14 destinations in North America as they were before the crisis.

With a view to the expected increase in traffic, a part of the satellite building of Terminal 1 at Munich Airport will be reopened from December 2021, 2 and, as a first step, used for US traffic. The passenger transport system with which Terminal 2 and the satellite are connected will also be put back into operation for non-Schengen traffic.

“With the effective lifting of the entry ban by the United States government from today, the travel wishes of all those who have been waiting for their flight across the pond for many months can finally be realized. As the booking numbers of the airlines already show, the passenger demand is correspondingly high. If we look back at the time of the pandemic and its effects on global air traffic in later years, November 8, 2021 could well be remembered as one of the important turning points, ”said airport manager Jost Lammers at the departure gate before the start towards Miami in Terminal 2.
