New safety measure: Fireproof bags against battery fires on board

The airline ANA, in collaboration with Kikuchi Sheet Industries and TOPPAN, has developed a fireproof storage bag to prevent fires caused by overheated batteries in electronic devices.

Already in use on ANA flights, the bag will also be available for other airlines from January 2025. The lightweight, compact bag uses innovative materials that release a fire-extinguishing aerosol when heated. It was developed in response to safety concerns among cabin crews to effectively minimize fire risks on board.
