No AUA tickets on Leipzig-Nuremberg: why actually?

Austrian Airlines will be active in domestic German air traffic until the end of October 2020. At least at first glance, because point-to-point tickets are not sold between Leipzig and Nuremberg. Why actually? Is that forbidden? No, the cause is much simpler, as the AUA explains on request.

“We are currently only planning this routing until the end of October, so it will be very brief. The train runs the route several times a day in two hours. And since domestic German flights are not our business model either, we see no business basis for an offer here, ”said an Austrian Airlines spokesman.

And an argument that would be understandable: Due to the routing, Austrian Airlines cannot offer a non-stop return flight. The machine first flies from Vienna to Leipzig, then to Nuremberg and then back to the Austrian capital. So you cannot offer a meaningful return flight, because a change in Vienna cannot keep up with the travel time with the train, the long-distance bus or the car. The group of customers who would like to fly one-way from Leipzig / Halle to Nuremberg is likely to be so small that it does not actually exist. Customers who want to travel from Leipzig to Vienna make a short stopover in Nuremberg and those who want to travel from Vienna to Nuremberg get to know Leipzig / Halle Airport - at least from their seat through the window.
