The Kazakh airline Air Astana is temporarily suspending all connections to Russia. They also temporarily no longer want to use the airspace of the Russian Federation. The background is that there is currently no insurance cover for this area.
The Tass news agency reports, citing a statement from Air Astana, that the carrier is in talks with the Kazakh government. It is conceivable that the flights could be resumed with the help of state liability. More and more insurers are excluding coverage in the airspace of the Russian Federation.
Meanwhile, the Russian government has decreed that the airports in the south of the country will remain closed to civil air traffic until at least March 20, 2022. Those affected include Krasnodar, Anapa, Gelendschik and Rostov-on-Don. It is emphasized that Sochi should remain open. The airports in the annexed Crimea are also closed to civilian flights.
