Only about two months ago Wizz Air opened a new base in Trondheim, Norway and announced a massive expansion. This is over again, because the lowcoster closes the base again. The activities from Oslo-Gardermoen are not affected.
On November 5, 2020, Wizz Air opened a base in the Norwegian capital and attacks with two Airbus A321s in domestic traffic. From the beginning there were critical voices from politicians, even calling for a boycott of the low-cost airline. A second base was opened in Trondheim in December.
Wizz Air spokesman András Rado told Norwegian media that there should be no changes to the route network or the number of weekly flights. Two Airbus A321s were most recently stationed in Trondheim. The company justifies the withdrawal of the aircraft with the stricter entry regulations that Norway has issued due to the Corona mutations.
It is still unclear whether Norwegian will reactivate the Trondheim base at a later date. In any case, the demand should be extremely low. In the summer of 2021, some hot water destinations such as Alicante, Chania, Las Palmas, Split and Larnaka will be offered from Oslo.
