Number of overnight stays in Vienna increased significantly

The year 2022 was significantly more successful for Vienna's hotels and guesthouses than previous years, which were characterized by lockdowns and travel restrictions.

13,2 million overnight stays were counted in Vienna last year. That is three quarters of the level in the pre-crisis year 2019. Hotel sales in October and November were even higher than in 2019, although inflation also plays a role here. Tourists from the United States in particular are making a comeback; after Austria and Germany, they are once again the third largest source of tourism. Travelers from the UK and Northern Ireland have also increased sharply, despite Brexit. In the future, people from nearby markets will increasingly travel by train. By the year 2025, the ratio of people arriving by car or train should be reversed. This should also be made possible by the increasing number of night trains operated by ÖBB. Above all, guests from Germany, Italy and Switzerland should be persuaded to switch to the train.
