Ofner and Stöckl demand resumption of Salzburg-Vienna

Some time ago, Austrian Airlines stopped domestic flights between Salzburg and Vienna-Schwechat. Christian Stöckl, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Salzburg Airport, and Günther Ofner, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG, are now demanding that these be resumed.

The two officials thus represent a completely opposite opinion as Transport Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens), because she wants to see all domestic flights stopped under the guise of climate protection. The so-called Air Rail offer, which Austrian Airlines is carrying out in cooperation with the ÖBB, does not seem to be accepted by the passengers as hoped. With regard to Linz and Salzburg in particular, many passengers seem to prefer to drive to Munich Airport rather than take the train to Vienna Airport.

- "It's time to reintroduce the feeder flights from Salzburg to Vienna," demands WKÖ Aviation Director Günther Ofner. He supports the demand of the head of the supervisory board at Salzburg Airport, the former deputy governor. Christian Stoeckl. Because the effects of stopping short-haul flights from Salzburg to Vienna are not necessarily what the inventor intended.

“Due to the discontinuation of the Salzburg-Vienna flight connection, the majority of passengers who flew from Salzburg via Vienna into the world now either use their car to Munich Airport or fly from Salzburg via Frankfurt or another, sometimes non-European hub to their final destinations . This serves neither Austria as a business location nor the environment,” says Ofner.

Salzburg is currently not served at all by Austrian Airlines. The carrier has gradually withdrawn from Austria's second largest airport. With the discontinuation of the hub connection to Vienna-Schwechat, the company said goodbye entirely. In Linz, too, there are no longer any regular scheduled flights. The Vienna feeder has been abandoned for a long time.

Gewessler has no commercial responsibility. Without them you can ask for anything.
