A plane belonging to the Lufthansa subsidiary Austrian Airlines was severely damaged during a flight by a hailstorm. During the approach to Vienna, the crew made an emergency call. Despite the severe damage, the plane managed to land safely, the airline announced.

There were 173 passengers and six crew members on board, all of whom were uninjured. A published photo uploaded by the storm control center in Vienna on platform X shows the affected Airbus A320 with a damaged radome and severely damaged cockpit windows. The airline stated that the aircraft's panels were also damaged. The flight was en route from Palma de Mallorca to Vienna. According to Austrian Airlines, the thunderstorm cell was not visible to the crew on the weather radar.
