Paid catering: Lufthansa introduces online pre-ordering

The impromptu sale of food and beverages on board commercial aircraft does not run according to the airlines' ideas on every route. Lufthansa is now introducing that paid goods can be pre-ordered.

From February 8, 2023, you can order food in advance on European flights with a flight duration of one hour or more. You can select the dish you want via a new pre-flight shop and then pay for it on board. Lufthansa still does not accept cash, only credit and debit cards.

The pre-order offer only includes fresh dishes such as bowls, salads, sandwiches and cakes, which were developed together with partners Dean&David and Dallmayr. Irrespective of this, passengers can still choose from the wide range of Onboard Delights, which includes snacks and drinks in addition to fresh products, even without pre-ordering on board.

With the new service, Lufthansa ensures that the desired meal is available on board. At the same time, the new concept makes an important contribution to greater sustainability through improved planning, because less food is wasted and less unnecessary packaging waste is produced.
