Passenger traffic at Frankfurt Airport recovered in 2022 from the sharp decline during the corona pandemic.

According to the airport operator Fraport, twice as many passengers were on the road as in 2021. The company counted a total of 48,9 million passengers last year. According to Fraport, the current number is still well below the record value of almost 70,6 million passengers in 2019. It is also below the figure of 50 million guests promised by Fraport boss Stefan Schulte.

"Looking ahead, we are optimistic. With the widespread desire to travel behind us, we expect further growth in 2023. We are preparing for this at full speed. It will remain challenging," said Fraport CEO Stefan Schulte.

In the freight and airmail business, the figures for the past year were well below those for 2021. The cargo business fell by around 13 percent to around two million tons last year.
