According to recent data from the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) and the Hellenic Aviation Service Provider (HASP), Greek airports recorded an 2024 percent increase in passenger traffic in the first nine months of 8,7 compared to the previous year. During this period, a total of 65.133.705 passengers used Greece's 39 airports, an increase of 5.232.163 travelers compared to the 59.901.542 passengers in the same period in 2023.
The number of flights at these airports increased by 6,6 percent to 489.694. Particularly noteworthy is the airport activity at the 24 state-managed airports, where 9.984.655 passengers were counted, an increase of 6,1 percent. Heraklion Airport on Crete was the busiest airport in September 2024 with 1.413.761 travelers, recording an increase of 6,6 percent compared to the previous year.
Athens International Airport (AIA) served approximately 24,56 million passengers in the first nine months, an increase of 13,3 percent. Fraport Greece Airport reported 30,97 million passengers for the first nine months, an increase of 5,9 percent.
The positive development of passenger traffic at Greek airports suggests that 2024 could be a record-breaking year for Greek air traffic, provided there are no unexpected disruptions in air transport.
