In Poland there is a risk of massive restrictions on air traffic from May 1st due to a tariff dispute. Eurocontrol warns of around 1.000 flight cancellations a day, which could affect connections to Poland on the one hand, but also flights through the country's airspace on the other.

The EU country already had to accept restrictions on air traffic due to the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. In addition, there is now a risk of a massive shortage of staff from May 1st due to the dispute over new remuneration regulations for air traffic controllers. According to information from the German Press Agency, 170 of the 208 air traffic controllers currently employed in Warsaw resigned in February, and for most the notice period expires at the end of April.

The reason for the wave of layoffs at the civil air traffic control Pansa is a new payment regulation, which came into force at the end of last year. In the course of this, the wages of the pilots were reduced by up to 70 percent, which the majority of employees do not want to accept. The trade union responsible has been in negotiations with Pansa for several weeks, but no agreement has yet been reached. Unless this changes in a timely manner, Eurocontrol could respond with the mass cancellation of flights, which may start as early as May 1st. The talks were still ongoing, as Check24 reports.
