Price cap for flight tickets: Airlines reject Italian plans

Advertising

The Italian government is upset that numerous airlines have sharply increased their ticket prices. A decree is now being prepared that will prohibit at least from/to Sicily and Sardinia charging more than 200 percent of the average price during the summer.

The airlines, represented by the Ibar and Assaero associations, are up in arms. Among other things, it is argued that such market intervention would not be compatible with EU market rules. There are already prospects of legal action and warnings that one or the other carrier could withdraw planes and use them from other countries.
