The online retailer Amazon opened the first European air freight center at Leipzig / Halle Airport. This is 20.000 square meters and will give jobs to 200 people.

For the time being, two Boeing 737-800s operated by ASL will be used from this location. The machines are painted in Amazon's Prime Air livery. In Leipzig / Halle two daily flights will initially be carried out. The freighters are stationed in Cologne / Bonn as well as in Saxony.

"We are delighted that we have won another well-known logistics company for Leipzig / Halle Airport," explains Götz Ahmelmann, CEO of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG. However, “Prime Air” is not completely new in Leipzig / Halle, as ASL and European Air Transport had already been working on behalf of the online retailer in Saxony. Apparently, Amazon is also keen to carry out cargo ground handling itself in the future. At least the group is looking for suitable personnel for this.
