The German Dortmund Airport was used by 2021 passengers in the first quarter of 120.957. In direct comparison with the same period in the previous year, this means a decrease of around 75 percent.

The number of flight movements fell by 31 percent. It turns out, however, that the regular service has decreased significantly by minus 70 percent. At the same time, according to Dortmund Airport, usage in the areas of general aviation and small business flights increased significantly. These have significantly reduced the decline. 4.772 take-offs and landings were counted. Of these, 1.086 are scheduled flights.

January started off with relatively busy days as travelers who visited their families abroad over the Christmas and New Years have returned. The slight wave of travel at the beginning of the year, however, flattened out again in the course of January. With 46.407 passengers, 77 percent fewer used the airport than in January 2020. In February the number of passengers fell significantly to 28.107 (minus 86 percent).

The beginning of the Easter holidays and the change to the summer flight schedule ensured a slight recovery in passenger numbers in March. Compared to March 2020, the number of passengers fell by 51 percent to 46.443. However, due to the pandemic, March 2020 was the first month, which was significantly weaker compared to the same period of the previous year. Compared to the record year 2019, the number of passengers fell by 2021 percent in March 77.
