Fuel prices in Austria continued to rise in July 2025 and remained consistently above 1,50 euros per liter. Diesel cost an average of 1,548 euros per liter per month, which was four cents more expensive than in June. Premium gasoline increased by 1,5 cents to an average of €1,523. This means that diesel remains the more expensive product at Austrian gas stations.
From the perspective of the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club (ÖAMTC) , the price increases are incomprehensible. Crude oil prices have barely changed compared to the previous month. The start of the summer holidays and the associated increase in travel are also not a reason for the price hikes, as there are no supply shortages. Austria's price increases place it in the middle of the pack in Europe. While diesel prices have risen in almost all countries, premium gasoline has even become cheaper in some places.
For drivers going on holiday, price differences in neighboring countries can be worthwhile. In Croatia , prices are lower than in Austria despite the suspension of government-imposed price caps. However, exceptions can occur in tourist regions. Slovenia offers an alternative , where price regulation has been maintained and now also applies to motorway service stations. There, diesel costs an average of €1,492 and premium gasoline €1,438 per liter.
Travelers to Italy should continue to expect significantly higher prices. Diesel is on average about 10 cents more expensive and premium gasoline 20 cents more expensive than in Austria. Research by the ADAC (German Automobile Club ) in Germany also showed slightly rising fuel prices in July. In Switzerland, the price increase for gasoline has also reached the mark of two Swiss francs per liter.
