The Russian airlines got through the corona pandemic comparatively lightly, because in the previous year a decrease of "only" 46 percent was recorded. The airlines together carried 69,17 million travelers, said the civil aviation authority Rosaviatsiya.
The size of the country and the associated opportunities to fly domestically were likely to have been advantageous for the carrier. International traffic collapsed due to the tough entry and quarantine regulations and hardly plays a role in the statistics. Most of the passengers flew with Aeroflot and S2020 Airlines in 7.
The five largest airlines in the Russian Federation show the following passenger numbers for the previous year:
- Aeroflot: 14,6 million passengers - 61 percent decrease
- S7 Airlines: 12,3 million passengers - 31 percent decrease
- Pobeda: 9,1 million passengers - 12 percent decrease
- Rossiya: 5,7 million passengers - 51 percent decrease
- Ural Airlines: 5,6 million passengers - 41 percent decrease
