Salzburg Airport has been able to celebrate two new arrivals from the Air France KLM Group in the past few days. Transavia connects the city of Mozart with Brussels and Hop with Paris Charles de Gaulle. For the time being, these are winter routes.
The corona pandemic has hit Innsbruck and Salzburg airports particularly hard, as both generate the lion's share of sales during the cold season. This is because the two Austrian airports are popular landing spots for travelers who want to spend their holidays in the surrounding ski resorts. Compared to the past, the winters of 2020/21 and 2021/22 were de facto a total failure.
Many carriers have returned this year. There are also some new additions. For example, Air France Hop has been connecting the city of Mozart with Paris-Charles de Gaulle once a week since last Saturday. This route will be served once a week throughout the winter of 2022/23. As a rule, Embraer 190 regional jets are used.
On Wednesday, sister company Transavia will start a non-stop connection between Brussels and the city of Mozart. This is served twice a week and is also provisionally limited to the 2022/23 winter timetable period. In any case, Salzburg Airport is pleased that Air France Hop is connected to another hub and that Transavia has an additional route to Brussels.
"It will be a winter season without travel restrictions like in the last two years, I'm sure. We are heading to destinations in 19 countries and bringing many winter guests to the EuRegio Salzburg-Bavaria, so we will almost reach the figures for 2019. I am particularly pleased about the new route to Paris with Air France Hop, which had its first flight last Saturday, and the Brussels connection with Transavia, which we will be able to welcome to Salzburg next Wednesday," says airport manager Christopher Losmann.
