Berlin-Brandenburg Airport counted around 2021 million passengers in September 1,46. Compared to August 2021, there was an increase of 30.000 travelers. However, it was well below September 2019.

Two years ago Schönefeld and Tegel Airports still had 3,2 million passengers. . Compared to September 2020, the number of passengers has more than doubled from around 694.000. The load factor of the aircraft was 2021 percent in September 77.

Last month, more than 13.300 flight movements were recorded at BER, 600 more than in August. Last year around 9.500 aircraft took off and landed in Schönefeld or Tegel in September; in September 2019 there were almost 26.000 machines. In terms of air freight, around 2.430 tons of goods were handled last month, an increase of 280 tons in August and almost 600 tons more than in September 2020. In August 2019, the month before the crisis, it was still almost 3.020 tons.

The airport company has been using its two runways on a monthly basis since April 2021. This ensures a more even distribution of aircraft noise. The northern runway was used in September. The attached graphic shows the flight movements on the individual flight routes.

“The passenger numbers in September show that there is also a revival in air traffic beyond the pure holiday traffic in summer. Business travel has also recovered. For October we expect stable traffic figures at roughly the level of the last few months. How sustainable and pronounced the recovery in demand will be in the winter months will, however, still depend on the further course of the pandemic, ”said Aletta von Massenbach, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH.
