Vienna Airport recorded a significant increase in freight traffic from January to September 2024. A total of 216.360 tons of freight were handled, an increase of almost 20 percent compared to the same period last year. So-called "belly freight", i.e. cargo carried on board passenger aircraft, grew particularly strongly, with an increase of 45 percent. Demand for pure cargo flights and air freight by truck also rose noticeably.

In the third quarter, cargo volume reached 75.242 tonnes, an increase of 25 percent year-on-year. Growth drivers were additional capacity and new flight connections, such as Qatar Airways Cargo's connection to Doha, which has been available since September 2024, and the return of Hainan Airlines in May.

Vienna Airport benefits from its strategic location as a logistics hub between Europe and Asia. With a modern infrastructure and fast processing times, the location has also established itself for intercontinental transport. A further increase is expected in the coming months, supported by strong demand for global logistics and the expansion of existing connections.
