The aviation group SmartLynx enters the freight business. The Maltese branch takes over two Airbus A321F. These are the first cargo planes operated by the charter airline.
A corresponding contract has been signed with Vallair. Two Airbus A321-200 passenger aircraft will be converted into pure freighters. SmartLynx Malta will not operate the medium-haul jets for its own account, but on behalf of a logistics group. The two A321Fs will be stationed at Luqa Airport.
“We are looking forward to seeing the A321F flying in Europe,” says Alistair Dibisceglia, Chief Leasing and Trading Officer of Vallair. “The aircraft will be operated by SmartLynx on behalf of an international freight forwarder and will be based in Malta. The location is ideal for inter-European distribution and will also help to ease pressure on congested freight hubs.”
