Spanish air traffic controllers flirting with strike

Advertising

In view of ongoing staff shortages, Spanish air traffic controllers are considering starting a nationwide strike in the summer.

At the end of June it will be decided whether or when to go on strike, reports that Mallorca Magazine and refers to circles of the union "Unión Sindical de Controladores Aéreos". The reason for the anger among the air traffic controllers is that there is too much work with too few staff. This has a negative impact on the health of the employees. In Palma, there are fewer employees in the tower than in 2019, although air traffic has increased considerably. Instead of the previous 55 air traffic controllers, there are now 53 on duty there.

Meanwhile, it became known that take-offs and landings had to be canceled for 40 minutes at all airports in the Balearic Islands on Thursday afternoon. According to Enaire, this was due to technical problems in the Palma Tower. There was a delay of around 20 minutes
