The Russian city of Saint Petersburg is about to get a second international airport. This is to be built on the area of the Levashovo military base, which is around 15 kilometers away. According to local media reports, Gazpromavia is about to sign a purchase agreement.

Levashovo will no longer be used militarily in the future. Therefore, one thinks about how the area and the already existing 2.500-meter slope can be used in the future. What is certain is that the approximately 148 hectare area is to be sold. According to the Delovoy Peterburg newspaper, Gazpromavia is said to be involved.

The airline of the energy company Gazprom is to strike at an auction and convert the current military base into an international civil airport. For this purpose, among other things, a passenger terminal and corresponding parking areas for passenger aircraft are to be built. It is unclear whether Polkowo Airport is to be used for business jets or for serious competition.

Delovoy Peterburg also writes that a deal has already been concluded. Accordingly, the area should go to the Gazprom Group for just one ruble. He builds the necessary infrastructure at his own expense and receives the operating license for 49 years. The period begins to count with the opening. Gazprom already owns a number of airports within the Russian Federation and plans to have the project in Saint Petersburg cost around 456 million euros.

Officially, they do not want to comment on the reporting, but refer to more detailed information that is to be announced at a press conference. Gazpromavia is the in-house flight service of the Gazprom Group. One is also in the regular business day and serves some inner-Russian routes.
