The “Corona break” was used in Stuttgart to renovate the only runway. The construction work is now complete.

After the long-planned construction work was brought forward by a few days at short notice due to the pandemic, the runway renewal at Stuttgart Airport has been successfully completed. As of Thursday, the runway will be available for air traffic again with its original length of 3.345 meters. On part of the runway, the concrete pavement was renewed over a length of around 1.200 meters.

“We are happy that we were able to carry out the construction work so quickly and successfully. Renewing part of the runway and at the same time enabling air traffic was a particular technical challenge. As an airport company, we only have a project like this every twenty years. We would like to thank everyone who has accompanied and supported this project for a long time - the responsible authorities, German air traffic control, our airlines, the contractors and of course our project team. Everyone has done a great job here, ”said Walter Schoefer, spokesman for the management.
