The German airport Dortmund counted a total of 215.511 passengers during the summer holidays of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. According to the airport, this is significantly more than expected, but 44 percent less than in the same period last year.

53 destinations in 27 countries were offered. "Demand developed extremely positively in the course of July," says Guido Miletic, Head of Marketing and Sales at Dortmund Airport. Before the holidays, the airport had expected that the number of passengers in July would be 30 percent of the previous year's level. "In fact, it was a good 50 percent," says Miletic. In the first two weeks of August, the opening of the Wizz Air base resulted in a further significant increase in passenger numbers: “At the beginning of August, we were able to welcome two thirds of the passengers from the previous year. Many of them on our new routes. "

Nevertheless, Katowice was the most popular destination from Dortmund Airport even during the summer holidays. 22.072 passengers alone used the Wizz Air and Ryanair connections. Bucharest was also very popular with 15.976 passengers. The holiday island of Mallorca only follows in third place with 15.940 passengers.
