From the German regional airport in Dortmund, 59 destinations in 27 countries will be offered this summer. The airport expects that around 250.000 passengers will use Dortmund Airport in the six-week holiday season.
"Traffic at Dortmund Airport is picking up speed again just in time for the summer holidays," said airport manager Ludger van Bebber at today's press conference. The sharp decline in infection rates in Europe and the increasing speed of vaccinations make responsible travel possible, so that the airlines are increasing their offers again. The airport is therefore looking to the summer holidays with optimism. A total of over 250.000 passengers are expected to travel to 59 destinations in 27 countries. The number of passengers would thus again reach around two thirds of the level of the record year 2019, in which a good 384.000 passengers used the airport during the summer holidays. “The good news for our passengers: The variety of holiday destinations has again increased significantly compared to previous years. Above all, the hot water supply from Dortmund has been greatly expanded ”, says Guido Miletic, Head of the Airport Services and Marketing department.
Eurowings has significantly expanded its range of holiday destinations from Dortmund this summer. This allows passengers to fly directly to Kavala in Greece, Alicante and Naples. The airline has also been flying to Catania, Malaga and Heraklion since June and to Rhodes from July. As part of the expanded summer program, Eurowings has stationed a second aircraft at Dortmund Airport.
The Hungarian airline Wizz Air is also continuing to rely on the Dortmund location and is expanding its range of services. This year, Wizz Air is flying for the first time from Dortmund to Mallorca, Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Burgas. The connection to Marrakech is scheduled to begin on June 30, 2021. Last year, Wizz Air introduced almost 20 new destinations from Dortmund. Some destinations that had to pause due to corona found their way back onto the flight plan in the course of June. Passengers can now fly to Reykjavik, Santorini, Budapest or Cyprus, for example.
After a break of over a year, SunExpress is also back on time for the summer holidays at Dortmund Airport. The connection to Izmir will be resumed from June 26, 2021. From there, passengers can connect to all of Turkey thanks to the airline's domestic routes.
