Summer: Wizz Air flies from Vienna on the back burner

While Austrian Airlines and Ryanair, among others, have increased their offer from Vienna-Schwechat Airport, especially to hot water destinations, the competitor Wizz Air shows a differentiated picture.

In the previous year, the Hungarian low-cost airline still saw itself as a pioneer, because the resumption of the first routes from May 2020 was announced at the end of April 2020. Due to the flight bans that still existed in many countries at the time, the comeback was very small. In the course of the pandemic, the carrier became much more cautious.

Wizz Air postponed the inclusion of routes over and over again. It is noticeable that some routes are advertised with particularly cheap ticket prices from 9,99 euros, but the inclusion is then postponed by a few weeks or even months. This picture can now be seen again, because the lowcoster has postponed many routes to August 2021, although in view of the previous history it is questionable whether these dates will hold.

Not only city routes are affected, but also classic holiday routes. The frequencies on those routes that are already being served or that are to be reactivated at the beginning of the Austrian summer holidays are extremely tight compared to their competitors Ryanair and Austrian Airlines. From this it can be deduced that Wizz Air plans conservatively for the summer of 2021 from Vienna and has less capacity. At the same time, the constant postponements and cuts also indicate a possible sales problem.

The Wizz Air plans for Vienna as of June 17, 2021 at a glance:
