Works meetings: Other AUA flights are cancelled

The staff meetings of AUA staff are affecting the airline's flight schedule more than expected. The number of cancelled flights increased from 28 to 52. "We apologize to our passengers for the inconvenience. The company is making every effort to keep the impact as minimal as possible," Austrian Airlines COO Francesco Sciortino assured Aviation.Direct yesterday. The initial 28 affected flights have now become 52 - around 5.200 passengers are affected by the flight cancellations. The works councils of the cabin and ground staff are holding staff meetings at Vienna Airport at the same time this morning. Affected passengers who provided a telephone number or email address when booking, as well as members of the Miles & More frequent flyer program, will be proactively informed about changes or rebookings, the airline informs on its website. From a current perspective, the following flights are affected: June 2, 2022 OS378 AMS-VIE OS518 MXP-VIE OS528 VCE-VIE OS740 BEG-VIE OS744 KSC-VIE OS804 ATH-VIE OS121 VIE-FRA OS122 FRA-VIE OS561 VIE-ZRH OS562 ZRH-VIE OS351 VIE-BRU 352 BRU-VIE OS411 VIE-CDG OS412 CDG-VIE OS547 VIE-BLQ OS548 BLQ-VIE OS683 VIE-ZAG OS684 ZAG-VIE OS713 VIE-BUD OS714 BUD-VIE OS767 VIE-PRN OS768 PRN-VIE OS391 VIE-BCN OS392 BCN-VIE OS571 VIE-GVA OS572 GVA-VIE OS809 VIE-SKG OS810 SKG-VIE OS553 VIE-ZRH OS566 ZRH-VIE OS151 VIE-DUS OS152 DUS-VIE OS177 VIE-STR OS178 STR-VIE OS795 VIE-SOF OS796 SOF-VIE OS405 VIE-LYS OS406 LYS- VIE OS977 VIE-GRZ OS978 GRZ-VIE OS151 VIE-DUS OS152 DUS VIE OS177 VIE-STR OS178 STR-VIE OS795 VIE-SOF OS796 SOF-VIE OS551 VIE-ZRH OS552 ZRH-VIE OS845 VIE-TIA OS846 TIA-VIE OS903 VIE-INN INN-VIE OS904 VIE-BSL OS471 BSL-VIE OS472 VIE-PRG OS705 PRG-VIE OS706 VIE-KIV OS655 KIV-VIE

AUA enables CO2-neutral flying “with one click”

Austrian Airlines passengers can now fly CO2-neutrally with just one click with every booking. Anyone who wants to fly in an environmentally friendly way can now co-finance the purchase of sustainable aviation fuel with AUA by paying a surcharge on the ticket. Previously, it was only possible to pay money for CO2 compensation projects when purchasing the ticket. The new surcharge is significantly higher, however: Anyone who wants to offset their CO2 emissions for a flight to Frankfurt with climate protection projects must pay 1,71 euros - sustainable aviation fuel costs 53,55 euros. Three options now offer the possibility of reducing or offsetting the flight's CO2 emissions directly before completing a flight booking. For an immediate reduction in CO2 emissions, passengers can support the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). A second option is to offset CO2 emissions through climate protection projects run by Climate Austria. These promote measurable climate protection by saving CO2 in the long term through the promotion of renewable energies. The third option is a combination of both options. "By integrating the options for CO2-neutral flying in the booking process, it should be easier for our guests to contribute to sustainable travel and discover the world in a CO2-neutral way today. We are the only Austrian airline to already use sustainable fuel in flight operations and make CO2-neutral flying possible for our guests," says Austrian Airlines CCO Michael Trestl. Austrian Airlines wants to halve its net CO2 emissions by 2019 compared to 2030 and to operate completely CO2050-neutrally by 2. In addition to the Austrian Lufthansa subsidiary, Swiss and Brussels are also integrating the option of compensation directly into the flight booking process.

Austrian Airlines is also looking for apprentices in 2022

Since 1997, over 200 apprentices have been trained in a wide variety of technical apprenticeships in the red-white-red apprentice workshop at the hangar at Vienna Airport. In the new year, the domestic carrier is also relying on its own young talent. "Apprentice training is an important and valuable investment in the future. On the one hand, the apprentices are our aviation experts of tomorrow, and on the other hand, we want to give young adults prospects for their career path. We are therefore very pleased that we will be able to offer training to become a mechatronics technician in production technology again in 2022," says Austrian Airlines COO Francesco Sciortino. Training to become a mechatronics technician has been offered since 2019 and is one of the most sought-after apprenticeships at the airline. There are currently 20 young people in this apprenticeship. "In the aviation industry in particular, a smooth process is unthinkable without professional aircraft maintenance. We therefore attach great importance to comprehensive training and a high level of quality," says COO Francesco Sciortino. Anyone who has successfully completed the 9th year of school, has very good German and English skills, is interested in aviation, and has manual skills and a technical affinity, as well as a willingness to work and a sense of responsibility among their strengths, has the best prerequisites for the apprenticeship. The training starts in September 2022, and applications are still possible on the Austrian website until February 13, 2022.

Austrian Airlines first flight landed in Cancún

Yesterday, the Austrian Airlines aircraft OE-LPF took off at 10:40 a.m. local time for its maiden flight to Cancún. Passengers and crew on the Boeing 777, which has a seating capacity of 306, were bid farewell to Mexican rhythms and a typical breakfast at the gate at Vienna Airport. Twelve hours later, the maiden flight OS095 landed safely in Cancún, where it was greeted with water fountains. During the 2021/22 winter flight schedule, Austrian will fly to the holiday destination in sunny Mexico every Thursday and Sunday. Due to high demand during the Christmas holidays, the Cancún offer was increased to ten instead of seven round trips between December 19 and January 9. “With our winter flight schedule, we are specifically focusing on attractive long-haul destinations in order to satisfy our passengers' desire to travel. With the direct connection to Cancún, we are further expanding our long-haul offering in the tourist segment," says Austrian Airlines Sales Director Michael Trestl. Mauritius and the Maldives also in the AUA winter flight schedule Last weekend, the airline not only started flying to Cancún, but also to Mauritius and the Maldives again. During the winter season, the red-white-red home airline takes off three times a week to Malé and Mauritius. Due to increased booking demand, the Austrian flag carrier is also increasing capacity at these destinations during the Christmas holidays. Between December 17 and January 9, Malé will be served with 15 instead of ten round trips and Mauritius with 13 instead of ten.

AUA increases frequency to Klagenfurt

From January 17, 2022, Austrian Airlines will significantly increase the number of flights between Klagenfurt and Vienna. Up to three flights a day will be offered. Since September, AUA has been flying up to twice between Klagenfurt and Vienna. From January 17, 2022, up to three flights a day are planned, using Embraer 195 jets with 120 seats. Eurowings is also increasing the frequency for the route to Cologne. The city in North Rhine-Westphalia will be served twice a week, and the frequency will be gradually increased to five weekly connections by March next year. The Dutch airline Transavia Airlines is also offering direct flights to Rotterdam - initially limited to seven dates in January and February. "These are encouraging signals. They show that the dry spell caused by corona is behind us. We assume that the work of our airline marketing will bear further fruit," explains Nils Witt, Managing Director of Klagenfurt Airport.

Vida on Eurowings staff: “Lufthansa is using the Corona pandemic to reduce employee rights”

Vida-Liebhart is calling for fair standards for flying personnel instead of allowing those who have been laid off to work again under worse conditions. As was made public yesterday, for the first time since the pandemic, 250 flight attendant positions at AUA's sister company Eurowings in Germany have been advertised to external parties. "Lufthansa is using the corona pandemic to reduce employee rights," criticizes Daniel Liebhart, head of the aviation department at the Vida union, against this background. The Lufthansa Group has announced massive job cuts across Europe, as well as in Austria, which are to be implemented despite rising air traffic figures, Liebhart explains his criticism. "On the other hand, during the pandemic, the group founded the company Eurowings Discover in Germany, which flies across Europe without a collective agreement or co-determination rights for the workforce. The Lufthansa Group now wants to recruit new staff who were laid off during the pandemic for this company so that they can go back to work in their usual jobs under worse conditions. The company is thus abandoning its social responsibility and following in the footsteps of other notorious airlines that deliberately circumvent employee rights," criticizes Liebhart. Instead of throwing money into new dumping companies in order to circumvent existing employee rights, the union is calling on the Lufthansa Group to actively work to preserve existing jobs. The internal Lufthansa dumping competition, which has now been artificially created by this large number of group companies, is a business in which everyone will lose, and is therefore the completely wrong answer to the still lacking fair rules of the game in the industry. The Lufthansa Group Executive Board should work with the unions to demand rules for fair competition from politicians. The governments are also called upon to act.

Austrian Airlines on Environment Day: Sustainable aviation can be achieved

Every year, World Environment Day on June 5th highlights the challenges of preserving an intact environment. Austrian Airlines is aware of its responsibility and has therefore been working for years to reduce the company's ecological footprint. One of the most promising means of reducing CO2 emissions is the use of sustainable fuels instead of fossil fuels such as kerosene. However, such fuels are currently many times more expensive than conventional kerosene. "Synthetic fuels are already available on the market - but still on a laboratory scale and therefore at pharmacy prices. In order to enable mass development and production at the Vienna site, a location initiative must therefore be launched," emphasizes CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech. "The EU and its member states must ensure that European airlines are not exposed to a competitive disadvantage compared to companies from third countries through the use of alternative fuels," demands Alexis von Hoensbroech. However, national or regional solo efforts lead to a distortion of competition and negative environmental effects, as non-EU airlines would engage in “tankering”. These airlines then fill up with significantly larger quantities of kerosene at home in order to be able to cover the return journey. This increases the weight of the aircraft and thus also the CO2 emissions. What measures is Austrian Airlines already taking? In order to reduce emissions in the long term, Austrian Airlines has been relying on climate-friendly measures for years. For example, since 2014 the Lufthansa subsidiary has been offering an attractive rail connection from Linz, Salzburg and Graz to Vienna Airport with AIRail in order to avoid climate-damaging short-haul flights. Since 2018, as part of the ReOil project, together with OMV and Vienna Airport, Austrian Airlines

Austrian Airlines is increasing its summer offer

At the same time as the relaxed entry rules come into force in Austria and many European countries, Austrian Airlines is increasing its tourist offering. First, Austria's home airline will start with classics such as Crete and Rhodes for the coming long Whitsun weekend. There will also be more flights to Athens and Thessaloniki. Other destinations such as Chania, Karpathos, Palma de Mallorca, Santorini, Skiathos and Zakynthos will follow in June. From July, other routes such as Cagliari, Catania, Funchal, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Kalamata, Mykonos, Naples, Olbia and Tenerife will round off the offer. In total, Austrian Airlines is offering over 100 destinations this summer - of which around 30 destinations have a clear focus on holiday resorts on the Mediterranean. "With our strong summer offering, we are returning to pre-crisis levels in the tourist segment. Demand is right, people want to travel. In addition, the new travel relief for Austria and various European countries is helping us - away from quarantine and towards proof of vaccination, testing and recovery," says Austrian Airlines Sales Director Michael Trestl. Traffic to Germany is picking up speed again In addition to the relief for tourist destinations, Germany has also recently relaxed its travel regulations. Here, too, the quarantine requirement has been replaced by mandatory proof of vaccination, testing or recovery, unless you come from a high-incidence or virus variant area. Antigen tests that are not older than 48 hours and PCR tests that are not older than 72 hours are accepted. "German-Austrian neighborhood traffic is now possible in both directions without quarantine. This is of course excellent news for us, as we can now offer our guests a comprehensive program again. We expect more demand on our routes again," Trestl continued. From

Go against the trend with e-learning

While more and more aircraft are being parked worldwide due to the pandemic, many airlines are currently taking advantage of the opportunities to train their employees. In the area of e-learning in particular, a strong development against the actual trend can be seen, with customers who were previously hesitant now opting for corresponding software solutions. The expert forge for such e-learning technology is Infowerk Medien & Technik GmbH from Innsbruck, which has now achieved this year's regional victory in the Award of Austria's Leading Companies for companies with a turnover of up to 1870 million euros, which is sponsored by Der Presse, KSV10 and PwC Austria. Winning one of Austria's most important business awards is another milestone in the company's more than 25-year history, which began in 1994 with the development of e-learning software primarily for the aviation industry. With the appropriate know-how, Infowerk has steadily expanded its portfolio, specializing in online-based training and further education tools for professional pilots and aircraft technicians. In the aviation sector, well-known companies are now among the Tyrolean company's customers, such as Aeronautx, Air Greenland, Austrian Airlines, Avantiair, Cargolux, Condor, Eurowings, Globe Air, LOT, Lufthansa, Peoples, South African, SunExpress, Swiss, Wideroe and Zimex. Even Boeing, Embraer and RUAG already rely on products from Innsbruck. A slump was expected at the beginning of the Corona pandemic, but things turned out very differently. "There are only two handful of specialists like us worldwide, and the boom in small business jets is enabling us to win many new customers. Asia in particular is picking up again," Infowerk Managing Director Roland Gatt told Die Presse. In addition to software solutions for aviation, Infowerk is focusing on other mainstays in the field of media technology. This is how it develops

The last AUA Fokker 70 left Bratislava
