On the morning of October 3, 2024, a technical malfunction occurred at Helsinki Airport, affecting the processing of checked baggage between 04:00 and 09:30.

This resulted in delays and some flights had to take off without all checked baggage. Regular operations were able to resume around 10:00 a.m.

The airport operator Finavia reacted promptly by setting up a backup system to minimize the impact. The delayed baggage is currently being processed by the airlines and redelivered to the affected passengers. Finavia apologized to the travelers and stressed that the situation is being handled in accordance with EU regulations.

The baggage sorting system at Helsinki Airport can process up to 14.800 pieces of baggage per hour and covers an area of 28.000 square meters.
