According to its own statements, the Lufthansa Group returned to the black in the second quarter of 2022. On the basis of preliminary and as yet unaudited figures, the group of companies announced that group sales have almost doubled in direct comparison with the same period of the previous year and amount to around 8,5 billion euros.

The Group's adjusted EBIT was between 350 and 400 million. euros (previous year: -827 million euros). The Group benefited above all from the continued strong development at Lufthansa Cargo. Lufthansa Technik achieved a similarly high result as in the first quarter. The result of the passenger airlines improved mainly due to a strong increase in average yields and significantly higher load factors. Occupancy was very high, especially in the premium classes. Despite a positive result at SWISS, the adjusted EBIT for the passenger airlines segment remained negative.

The Lufthansa Group achieved a significantly positive adjusted free cash flow in the second quarter, primarily due to the operating profit and the continued strong demand for bookings. On a provisional and unaudited basis, this was around EUR 2 billion (previous year: EUR 382 million). A decline of a similar magnitude is therefore expected for net debt in the second quarter (March 31, 2022: EUR 8,3 billion). The Group will present the final quarterly results on August 4, 2022.
