More and more countries are putting Austria and / or the capital Vienna on their risk lists and issuing travel warnings. Most recently, Cyprus took this step for the entire national territory. Now the government of the Netherlands issued a corresponding warning for Innsbruck and Vienna on Tuesday.

People who want to enter the Netherlands from the provincial capital of Tyrol or the Austrian capital now have to go into quarantine for ten days. The Dutch government justifies the step with the fact that the number of infections in the two Austrian cities has recently risen sharply. "With the exception of the capital Vienna and the city of Innsbruck, you can travel to Austria on holiday, but stay vigilant," reads the relevant information from the government of the Netherlands.

For air travelers, however, there is a relief: According to the government, the mere use of the airports Vienna-Schwechat and Innsbruck does not lead to the obligation to quarantine. This should also provide relief for winter tourism, because Innsbruck and Salzburg in particular are popular landing spots for Dutch winter sports enthusiasts.

In the past few days, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, Cyprus and now the Netherlands have issued travel warnings. While Denmark and Cyprus view the whole of Austria as a risk area, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium limit themselves to the federal capital Vienna. The Netherlands also warn against Innsbruck. Other countries in the Scandinavian and Baltic regions are currently making it difficult or even impossible for people residing or staying in Austria.

Cyprus already downgraded the Alpine republic to the B list in August. Austria is now even among the C countries. As a result, a negative PCR test must be presented upon entry and an additional 14-day quarantine must be entered into. The same also applies to people arriving from Switzerland. When it comes to Cyprus flights, changes in the flight schedule can be expected at short notice. From Austria and Switzerland, various airlines currently serve the Cypriot airports Paphos and Larnaka.
