Third runway: State of Lower Austria approves deadline extension

Advertising

The office of the Lower Austrian provincial government, in its capacity as EIA authority, extended the implementation period for the construction of the third runway at Vienna-Schwechat Airport to June 26, 2023 with a decision dated May 30, 2033.

The Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG had previously submitted a corresponding application. The project was legally approved immediately before the corona pandemic, but due to the crisis of lower passenger numbers, construction has not yet started. Austria's largest airport now has until 2033, otherwise the permit would expire.
