The low-cost airline Wizz Air announces its comeback in Salzburg after a long absence. From February 2024, three destinations will gradually be served from Austria's second largest airport. These are London-Luton, Bucharest and Skopje.

“We are very pleased to be resuming the long-awaited flights from Salzburg to Bucharest and Skopje, as well as the launch of a new route to London. This expansion brings Europe's most sustainable airline to Salzburg, offering travelers three exciting destinations and the opportunity to explore notable and iconic capitals with Wizz Air. We can’t wait to launch these routes and offer our Austrian passengers low fares with the highest quality on board,” said Valeria Bragarenco, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air.

In the summer of 2020, the low-coster surprised with the short-term addition of some routes from Salzburg. Destinations such as St. Petersburg and Kiev-Shuljany were also announced at the time. But that never happened, because the destinations in Southeast Europe that were offered for a short time were canceled after just a few rounds set without any song or sound.

The comeback in Salzburg was repeatedly postponed over a long period of time. At times, representatives of the company also said that it might not be possible anymore. Wizz Air now wants to offer three weekly London-Luton routes from February 8, 2024. These should be operated on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Three Skopje circuits per week will follow on April 1, 2024. The flight days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. From April 2, 2024, flights to Bucharest will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. In contrast to Vienna, no aircraft will be stationed in Mozart's city.

“We are pleased that the Hungarian airline is adding Salzburg to its range of destinations as a second strategic partner in Austria alongside Vienna. We are initially launching with London Luton in February 2024 and will be adding Bucharest and Skopje to our flight program in April. “We will continue to work intensively on expanding the route offering in the coming weeks,” says Bettina Ganghofer, Managing Director Salzburg Airport, looking into the coming season.
