With the creation of a new management position at TUI Airline, the travel group is taking a strategic step to strengthen its market position in the holiday flight segment.

Peter Glade, former Head of Sales at Sun Express, will assume responsibility for the airline's commercial direction as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) from 1 November 2024. Given the challenges and opportunities in the aviation market, particularly in the growing leisure flight sector, Glade's expertise will help increase TUI Airline's market share and specifically address the needs of European customers and B2B partners.

The growing holiday flight market

The aviation industry has changed rapidly in recent years, and the leisure flight market is becoming increasingly important. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the leisure flight market is expected to grow by 2025% by 30, while the total number of passengers continues to stabilize compared to the period before the COVID-19 pandemic. This creates new revenue potential that TUI Airline wants to specifically exploit. In this context, Marco Ciomperlik, CEO of TUI Airline, highlights the need to meet the growing demand for leisure flights and increase the airline's efficiency.

Peter Glade: An expert with extensive experience

Peter Glade brings a wealth of experience to his new position at TUI Airline. In his previous role as Head of Sales at Sun Express, he was instrumental in the company's strategic direction and growth. His knowledge of the various European markets and his ability to build strong partnerships in the B2B sector are considered crucial to further consolidate TUI Airlines' position as a leading provider of holiday flights. Glade is optimistic about the new challenges: "I am looking forward to further developing the commercial structure at TUI Airline and aligning the airline with the needs of our customers."

TUI Airline's strategies

The restructuring of TUI's airline division is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at securing market share in an increasingly competitive environment.

The new commercial structure is intended not only to improve cooperation between the different TUI airlines, but also to offer innovative products and services to customers. TUI Airline operates a fleet of around 130 aircraft and employs more than 8.000 people working in five airlines. By focusing on improving efficiency and adapting to market needs, TUI Airline will seek to increase its competitiveness.

Challenges and Outlook

The challenges in the aviation sector are complex. In addition to the increased operating costs caused by the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and high fuel prices, the industry is also facing increasing competition from other airlines and low-cost carriers. TUI Airline must face these challenges while meeting the expectations of customers who demand a high level of quality and flexibility.

The appointment of Peter Glade as CCO represents a strategic step to respond to these challenges. With a clear focus on the leisure flight market and the intention to tap into new revenue potential, TUI Airline is well positioned to continue to play a leading role in European air transport in the future.
