The German FlixMobility group swallows the US competitor Greyhound Lines. A purchase price of up to 172 million US dollars has been agreed. The British First Group was the last owner of the legendary American intercity bus.
Flixbus already operates in the United States. With the takeover of the Greyhound lines, the route network has grown by around 2.400 destinations. The infrastructure is not included in the purchase price. This will remain with the First Group, but will be rented from FlixMobility in the future.
“A constant further development of our network through cooperation or acquisitions has always been an essential part of our growth strategy in order to further expand our global presence. The takeover of Greyhound brings us a decisive step further and strengthens the position of FlixBus in the USA, ”explains FlixMobility boss Jochen Engert.
The payment terms were agreed as follows: The buyer will initially transfer 140 million US dollars to the First Group. An additional $ 18 million is to be paid to First Group in installments over the next 32 months. It was also confirmed that the US $ 108 million that Greyhound received from the US government due to the corona pandemic will remain and that FlixMobility can benefit from it.
