British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Monday that the corona tests for vaccinated people that are currently mandatory for entry are to be completely abolished. At the moment, these must also have a test carried out at their own expense no later than on the second day after entry.
For the time being, the entry facilitation will only apply to the English part of the country, but Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland usually follow. The vast majority of passengers enter the UK through London airports. The change is scheduled to take effect on February 11, 2022.
Naturally, the aviation and travel industry reacted positively to the forthcoming abolition of the testing requirement. For example, Easyjet boss Johan Lundgren said: "We welcome this news as we know millions of our customers will also be delighted to see the return of unrestricted travel in the UK. We are now looking forward to what we believe to be a strong summer. We believe testing for travel should finally be a thing of the past. It is clear that travel restrictions have not significantly slowed the spread of Omicron in the UK and it is therefore important that there are no more knee-jerk reactions to future variants."
