In view of the strike announced by the Verdi union for February 17, 2023, Hamburg Airport assumes that regular flight operations will not be possible. The airport asks passengers and those picking them up not to come to the airport at all.

In Hamburg alone, around 32.000 arriving and departing passengers are affected by upcoming flight cancellations. People who have booked tickets from/to Hamburg for Friday, February 17, 2023 are asked not to come to the airport and to contact their airline to find out about rebooking and/or alternative transportation options.

The Verdi trade union informed employees at seven German commercial airports between Thursday, February 16, 22 p.m. and Friday, February 17, 2023, 22 p.m called for work stoppages. At Hamburg Airport, the strike could affect areas such as air security control, passenger handling and maintenance. Other airports in Germany are also affected by a Verdi strike.
