On March 17, 2023, a Lot Embraer 175 and an Enter Air Boeing 737-800 came extremely close. The incident is classified as a so-called "near miss".
The LOT regional jet, registration SP-LIB, began taxiing onto the runway at approximately 7:48 local time to operate flight LO481. At 7:55 a.m. the aircraft turned onto runway 15 and then began to take off. In the meantime, the Boeing 737-800 with the registration SP-ESC, which was en route from Basel to Warsaw as ENT51UA, approached the airport. At 7:55 a.m. the medium-haul jet touched down on runway 11.
At one point, runway 11/29 intersects with runway 15/33. The Enter Air narrow-body aircraft continued taxiing on runway 11 before turning onto taxiway N2, E2 and finally the designated gate.
While the 737 taxied down the runway, the Loter's Embraer E175 was on its way to takeoff. The plane's ground speed peaked at 63 kilometers per hour (39,1 miles per hour) and within five seconds it lost half its ground speed, flightradar24.com data shows. At 7:58 a.m. local time, the E175 turned onto the closest taxiway, namely O1, before reapproaching runway 15 at the same location. The Lot machine successfully took off at 8:05 local time and landed in Oslo an hour and 40 minutes later.
According to a Lot spokesman, the cause of the aborted take-off of the Embraer 175 should not have been the Enterair plane that landed. There was a display in the cockpit that shouldn't have been there. The regional jet then rolled back and began to take off again. The rest of the flight passed uneventfully.
