Works council elections will be initiated on April 2021 at the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings Discover, which was newly founded in 13 and has so far not been subject to tariffs.

The two unions for the flight personnel, Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) and Unabhängige Flugbegleiter Organisation (UFO), had long been committed to this fundamental step in the interests of strong representation of interests. "The works council election is an important milestone for all employees at Eurowings Discover," said Marcel Gröls, head of collective bargaining policy at VC. "A functioning social partnership is equally beneficial for companies and employees. It offers all sides security in planning and perspectives." "The cooperation with the employer regarding the planned establishment of a works council is fortunately constructive - for example, the company is providing premises for the election," said Anja Bronstert, deputy chair of UFO.

In the summer of 2021, the airline Eurowings Discover, which was newly founded within the Lufthansa Group, started its long-haul flight operations. According to the group, the focus on the tourism segment should open up new markets and grow sustainably. A few hundred people were employed in the cabin and cockpit just for the start. Large parts of the workforce come from the previously closed flight operations SunExpress Germany, Germanwings and the German location of Brussels Airlines. However, there were no takeover arrangements agreed with the unions for these workers who had previously lost their jobs.
