Zurich Airport introduces Self Bag Drop

Advertising

Passengers can now hand in their luggage themselves at the self-bag drop machines at Zurich Airport.

The offer in Check-in 2 and from the beginning of April also in Check-in 3 is initially only available to passengers of Swiss, Edelweiss and other Lufthansa Group airlines, as announced by the airport. Other airlines are to follow. Those who have already checked in online at home or while on the move and have received their boarding pass can now hand in their luggage themselves to the ten self-bag-drop machines in Check-in 2, row 5 at Zurich Airport. From the beginning of April, passengers of the Lufthansa Group will have another ten machines available in Check-in 3. Passengers can drop off their luggage at the new kiosks from 23 hours before their flight during their respective operating hours.

Baggage drop-off in three steps

In order to be able to use the self-bag-drop offer, passengers must have already checked in online with the relevant airline and received their boarding pass. The boarding pass is scanned at the Self Bag Drop, the baggage is placed on the belt, the baggage tag is printed and attached to the bag, if this has not already been done at home. The piece of luggage is then automatically fed into the luggage sorting system at Zurich Airport by the self-bag-drop machines by means of a conveyor belt. The self-bag drop service is currently available to passengers of Swiss, Edelweiss, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines.

“The self-bag drop service enables different airlines to be processed at the same counter. This increases flexibility in the check-in process and increases convenience for passengers through additional baggage drop-off points,” says Roman Jung, Self Bag Drop Project Manager, Zurich Airport AG.
