The German holiday airline Sundair will provide the connection between Stockholm and Beirut back on. The route will be operated for the last time next week.
Managing director Marcos Rossello confirmed this to Aviation Direct. It has not yet been determined whether this route will be reactivated at a later point in time or not. In the summer flight schedule of 2021, Sundair wants to focus on flights from Germany.
When asked about the reason for abandoning the Stockholm-Beirut route, Rossello said that it was only planned until March 2021 anyway. The current weak demand due to the global pandemic would no longer justify the high expenditure. As an example, he mentioned that crews have to travel to / from Stockholm to relieve their colleagues. So far, the connection has been operated according to the following pattern: Düsseldorf-Beirut-Stockholm-Beirut-Düsseldorf. The crew change therefore took place in Sweden. Rossello makes “no secret” of the fact that the premature abandonment of the first route outside Germany is due to low occupancy and says “unfortunately that's how it is”.
