The cargo crane, as Lufthansa Cargo is sometimes called, has taken over two more Boeing 777Fs. These carry the registrations D-ALFJ and D-ALFK and are stationed at the Frankfurt am Main home base. From October the fleet will consist of 15 units of this type.
"We are very pleased that we can now offer our customers the capacity of a total of fifteen highly efficient large-capacity freighters," said Dorothea von Boxberg, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo. “We will continue to manage our freighters flexibly in accordance with customer requirements in the future. Together with the additional loading capacities of Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings Discover, which are now growing again, they form our dense, global network. "
With the two new additions, Lufthansa Cargo's Frankfurt fleet now has eleven Boeing 777F wide-body cargo aircraft, plus the capacity of four aircraft of the same type operated by the AeroLogic joint venture.
The D-ALFK is a brand-new aircraft from the Boeing plant in Everett, Washington State, which landed at Frankfurt Airport for the first time today at 06:00 a.m. local time. With the acquisition, Lufthansa Cargo has now exercised all of the purchase options it held for large-capacity freighters from the manufacturer. The D-ALFJ is an access from the used market. In order to be able to make the capacity of the freighter available to customers as quickly as possible, the elaborate paintwork in the otherwise usual Lufthansa design was dispensed with. For the time being, the machine is completely white and only has a tongue-in-cheek sticker on the fuselage.
Last MD-11 in Europe flies with Farewell livery
The last remaining three-jet engine of the Lufthansa Group - also the last MD-11 machine registered in Europe - is now on the road in a special design. Lufthansa Cargo thanks for more than 23 years of loyal service and sends the D-ALCC with the greeting “Farewell” and “Thank you, MD-11” and on its fuselage on its last rounds to Cairo, Tel Aviv, Chicago and New York. The active period of the model at Lufthansa will end with the last landing at Frankfurt Airport on noon on October 15, 2021.
