The Austrian Forum for Mobile Communications does not consider the discussion currently taking place in the United States of America about the 5G standard and possible effects on aviation to be applicable to Austria.
In the USA, 5G is used in the so-called C band. In a broadcast, the FMK points out, among other things, that the new standard has been in operation in Europe for some time and that there have been no disruptions to air traffic so far.
In Europe, especially in Austria, 5G has been in operation for about three years. Vienna Airport and its surroundings are also supplied with 5G - as was to be expected, completely trouble-free. This is because the frequency gap between the high-altitude radar and the frequencies used for 5G is particularly wide at at least 400 MHz. An influence on the high-altitude radar of aircraft is thus excluded. For comparison: The distance between radio transmitters and the flight radio is only about 10 MHz and has also been working completely interference-free for decades, according to the Forum for Mobile Communication.
