On March 4, 2023, Tui Airways flight BY2660 en route from Manchester to Innsbruck suffered a broken windshield in the cockpit. The machine was able to continue the journey to Tyrol, but had to be repaired on site.
The Boeing 737-800 with the registration G-TAWX is affected. The medium-haul jet was about 350 kilometers from Innsbruck before the pilots realized that the windshield was damaged. At this time you were in the airspace of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Available radar data shows that G-TAWX descended from flight level 370 to FL250. About 40 minutes after the incident, the Tui Airways plane touched down safely on the runway at Innsbruck Airport. Decreasing altitude is a common practice to ensure adequate oxygen is available.
The British carrier had the damage repaired on site in Tyrol. For this reason, the medium-haul jet was at Innsbruck Airport for around 1,5 days. The machine was then transferred back to the United Kingdom. Due to the incident, there were occasional delays and cancellations.
