The US aircraft manufacturer Boeing now has its own subsidiary that is developing aircraft that will have electric propulsion. To do this, the California-based start-up Wisk Aero was bought.
On May 31, 2023, it was announced at a press conference that the young company had been taken over by Boeing. Company boss Bryan Yutko, who was previously in the service of the buyer himself, did not provide any further details, such as the purchase price.
The Wisk Aero homepage now also clearly refers to the takeover by Boeing. For example, it reads: “In 2023, Wisk will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Boeing. Although we operate separately, this relationship allows us to leverage Boeing's expertise in engineering, testing and certification, and more."
This is not the first investment by the Americans in the field of electric aircraft. For example, it has invested in Advanced Air Mobility and Kittyhawk. Originally, Wisk Aero was founded by Google founding member Larry Page and his Kitty Hawk Corp. startup created together with Boeing. Now Boeing has become the sole owner.
