In the recently completed year 2023, Munich Airport had around 37 million passengers, five million more travelers than in 2023. Nevertheless, Germany's second largest airport is still 20 percent below the pre-crisis volume.

The number of flight movements increased by six percent compared to 2022 to more than 300.000 take-offs and landings. Seat occupancy reached a record high and, at 81,3 percent, exceeded 80 percent for the first time since the airport opened. In 2023, the focus of passenger development was on original traffic. This increased by 22 percent compared to the previous year. The number of transfers, which is important for hub traffic, also increased by a double-digit rate of 11 percent.

“The strong growth in passenger volumes in 2023 shows how well the aviation industry is recovering in Munich. This positive development is a sign of the high demand for air travel among the population and the economy,” says Managing Director Jost Lammers.
