Austria: Good booking situation continues during the Easter holidays

“Across all federal states the booking situation is largely good this Easter holidays. This confirms once again that our guests appreciate Austria's wide range of tourist offerings, from winter sports and wellness to art and culture and culinary delights - the mix of the many holiday and leisure activities makes it possible to find a suitable travel motive for everyone in today's times of overlapping seasons," said Tourism State Secretary Susanne Kraus-Winkler.

A look at the mountain regions or the city and countryside shows that bookings vary relatively regionally. In the federal capital Vienna, the booking situation is good and at a stable level - the conference business is also off to a good start. Burgenland, Styria, Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Carinthia, Tyrol and Vorarlberg are well booked at Easter. In general, it can be observed that the snow and piste conditions in higher altitude ski areas are very good and therefore have a very good booking situation - there is also hope for further short-term bookings. The lower-lying ski areas tend to have less snow, although the piste conditions are still good in some places. Here and there, guest bookings are still subdued - partly due to the mild weather - skiers are currently often switching to higher-altitude ski areas to be on the safe side.

“Climate change presents us with challenges in the medium to long term, especially in some lower-altitude ski regions when it comes to periods outside of the core winter periods. In some regions, a 'hybrid' offer or flexibility is already being used today: an offer that works not only on snow, but also on the 'green slopes'. At the same time, the booking and overnight stay figures clearly show us that skiing is still at the center of our winter offerings and it will certainly stay that way for a long time,” Kraus-Winkler is convinced.

February went very well – more international guests again

February, as the winter month with the highest number of overnight stays, went very well in the federal states - for example in Tyrol, Salzburg, Burgenland and Vienna with an increase compared to the previous year. As far as the international source markets are concerned, overnight stays from the Netherlands in Tyrol increased by 2023 percent to three million from November 2024 to February 16,8 compared to the previous year - the Netherlands therefore accounts for 15,9 percent of all overnight stays. In Vorarlberg, guests from the DACH region and the Netherlands remain loyal, although an upward trend is also noticeable in the other international markets. In Vienna, too, more guests are coming from the international markets of origin, such as the USA, and also increasingly from our European markets, such as Spain, Italy and Great Britain. In the city of Salzburg, overnight stays by US guests have even increased by 10 percent in recent months.
